Mangalocity is a site dedicated to all those who have an interest in becoming either manga artists, writers, or animators. There are hundreds of thousands of aspiring artists all over world who would love to work in the Japanimation industry.
However, getting published in the field of manga has never been more formidable, especially for those Gaijin wishing to work in Japan. It is extremely difficult for a foreigner to get any job in Japan, let alone one working in the manga industry.
Japanese customs and immigration laws are very strict on foreigners wishing to work in the country. Foreigners cannot even apply for a work permit while in Japan. Most foreigners wishing to work in Japan have to first find an employer there and then they will have to fly to Taiwan just to get the work permit.
Japanese employment agencies are notorious for refusing to grant work permits for "non-essential" jobs such as the comic book industry. All in all, it is difficult to get a job in japan as a comic artist.
And yet this is what I and many others have aspired to do. But the reality is that Japan much prefers to export than import, selling their works to foreigners and hiring native talent instead of employing foreigners and selling to them. I think that this is very unfortunate, given the fact that there is so much talent in the United States and in other places outside of Japan. This is why Mangalocity was formed. This website was formed for the sole
purpose of searching and looking for talent within the United States and other places outside Japan.Mangalocity's services include licensing, publishing, and networking.
Our goal is to find people who have a tremendous amount of talent in the areas of writing, drawing, and animation. We are looking for individuals who possess talent but may not have the energy, resources, or know how in order to become a well known, established artist.
Thats why at the launch of our site, we are having five separate online contests in order give people a chance to show their abilities without the hassle
of traditional publishing and illustration agencies.
There are thousands of books written each year, and out of those thousands only a tiny percentage ever makes it into the bookstore.
Our website was created by amateur artists for amateur artists. This website is not particularly dedicated to those who have already established themselves professionally, though we invite everyone to check out website to see what we offer. Our primary services are:
Licensing
Publishing
Collaboration
Networking
Production
There are literally thousands of sites dedicated to manga and anime all over the internet. And more are being added every day. Most are simply fan sites or sites related to news on the animation industry or upcoming titles. Here at Mangalocity.com we are all that and much much more. Our goal is to elevate the many non professional artists, writers, and animators out there who have the talent to succeed and become professionals. And not only do we specialize in manga art, we also want to promote artists of other styles as well.
This is why Mangalocity will do what no online comic book publishing company has done, and that is to drive artists, animators, and writers to our website via a series of online contests. We will award the top artists instead of the artist going from company to company, submitting their works only to wait months before hearing a response. By giving the top artists cash prizes for their work, we push them to perfom at a higher level than normal. And we don't charge enormous emounts in order for them to do so.
Even better, everyone wins, because once they've submitted their works to our site, even if they don't win the contests, their works will be submitted into our gallery and can have rapid exposure, giving them an opportunity to network with other artists and writers.
